Biafra: Why Nigerian Government must arrest Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer, others – Lawyers

Legal practitioners, under the aegis of Lawyers of Conscience (LAWCONS) have called for the immediate arrest of Ifeanyi Ejiofor, the lawyer to IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu and other persons working for the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra.
The group said it was an insult on the side of the Nigerian government that the now labeled-terrorist group, IPOB led by Kanu could have the mind to file a suit before the Federal High Court in Abuja praying for an order directing the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, to produce its leader in court.
LAWCONS said it was worried that law enforcement agencies were yet to act on the order of the Federal High Court in Abuja that designated IPOB as a terrorist organization.
Babatunde Oladimeji, President, while speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, noted that Ejiofor was only out to complicate the issues by claiming that the military was in custody of his client and not in London as widely reported.
Oladimeji said, “Knowing that he had grossly violated his bail conditions for his treason trial, Kanu had deliberately instigated his followers to attack troops on Operation Python Dance II drills to claim attacks on his person when they acted to defend themselves.
“In the wake of the incident of September 14 when Ifeanyi said he last saw his client, Kanu was on telephone live with a broadcast station, in which he condemned the military for repelling his fighters. IPOB spokesman, Emma Powerful, had categorically declared that they ferried the terrorist leader to safety.
“Emma Powerful specifically stated in the statement on September 18 2017 (four days after the dates referenced by his lawyer) that “Our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has made it abundantly clear to all and sundry that he is NOT going on exile as a result of these childish threats from Hausa Fulani dominated Nigeria Government.”
He further said “Major General Muhammadu Buhari

Buhari Should Discuss With Southeast Leaders Not IPOB Members

Tunde Ajibulu, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday said President Muhammadu Buhari should dialogue with respectable leaders in the South East to find a lasting solution to the current agitation in the region.

He however disagreed with those asking the president to dialogue with Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) saying Kanu who is currently in hiding after the Operation Python Dance exercise in Abia state is a lily-livered charlatan and opportunist.
It will be recalled that former President Olusegun Obasanjo had advised President Buhari to dialogue with Kanu.
The former president in an interview with the Newsweek Magazine, had said there is nothing wrong in having a discussion with the aggrieved group.

According to him : “I don’t see anything wrong in that [Buhari meeting with Kanu]. I would not object to that; if anything, I would encourage it. “I would want to meet Kanu myself and talk to people like him, people of his age, [and ask:] ‘What are your worries?’ Not only from the southeast but from all parts of Nigeria.”
However, many Nigerians said it is hypocritical of Obasanjo to call for dialogue, a measure he didn’t take during his tenure as President especially as regards Odi in Bayelsa and Zaki Biam in Benue state.
Ajibulu, who spoke in an interview with sources, said “Desperate times calls for desperate measures. These are real desperate times, we must crush charlatans attempting to destabilise and sow division in our country”.
“With all due respect to President Obasanjo, I believe he is right to an extent. I think President Buhari has to dialogue but that must be done with respected and distinguished people in Igbo land; not with riff raffs like Kanu.
Who is he? What is he? What are his antecedents? He is a lily livered charlatan and opportunist who has started showing his true colours” he said.

An explosion, which occurred at an oil facility, yesterday caused panic among residents of Evekwu, Rumuji, Rumuodogo and Ibaa communities, Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State.
It was gathered that the oil facility belongs to Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) in Rumuji town.
Although, no casualty was recorded, there were conflicting reports on the cause of the explosion.
Some sources claimed the incident was due to equipment failure, while others said it was an accident, dousing the fear that it was caused by suspected militants.
One of the sources, Chief Ndudirim Amadi, told journalists that the incident occurred at about 1.00pm adding that it was caused by much pressure on the pipeline.
Amadi said the pipeline exploded on its own due to high pressure, which could no longer be contained by the facility.
Amadi said: “I don’t know what caused it. But, I think the pressure was much on the pipe; that was why it exploded. It has caused fear in our community. The force from the crude coming out of the pipe, caused earthquake everywhere.”
Amadi added that the incident caused a lot of damage to the people of the area, stressing that farmlands and crops have been destroyed by the crude from the facility.
Another source, simply identified as Chikukere, said on phone that the incident was an accident, stressing that the danger mark of ‘keep off’, scared people from getting close to the pipelines.
He alleged that a company, Integrated Data Services Limited (IDSL), a subsidiary of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), was on operation around the facility before the incident occurred.
According to the source, IDSL, which uses explosives like dynamite and grenades in its operations, was at work around the area as at the time of the incident.
He pointed out that vibration from the explosion that was detonated by IDSL caused the accident, saying the crude product flowed uncontrollably.
Meanwhile, Commissioner for Environment, Prof. Roseline Konya, has confirmed the incident, saying the pipeline belonged to the NLNG.
Konya said the government was on top of the matter and NLNG had assured to respond to the incident swiftly, urging residents not to panic.

Man Found Dead Along Ibom Layout In Cross River State (Photos) by Ajasco222: 12:01pm On Feb 22

According to Ifere Paul who shared the story, the unidentified middle-aged man was found dead along Ibom Layout in Calabar, Cross Rivers state this morning.

He wrote:

“The Spate of Killing In Calabar Is Worrisome.

One found dead this morning close to Ekpo Okon’s house at Ibom Layout.

Please the Police should identify the corpse and remove same from the Street while investigation on the cause of death and other inquiries.

It is important that members of the Police to work more proactively to ensure the safety to lives and properties in Calabar.

Allowing dead bodies close to a politician’s house like that of Ekpo Okon will send the wrong signals to the public.

Most important is the fact that the number one citizen of the State, Governor Ben Ayade, to be strict and tighten security measures in the State. Building the safety of lives and properties in the State on whistleblowers is the most deadly decision to be taken by our governor.

In one of my article titled “Towards A Lasting Peace: A Comprehensive Plan To Make Calabar Peaceful, Tourism & Investors Destination”, I made a recommendation to the State for the need to build a network of informers. Those informers will inform security agencies in the State and government crime hotspots and persons committing these crime.
Even though the government came up with “Homeland Security”, nothing has been done since the announcement and celebration of this.

It is important that the governor act as a governor. One with good intention for the people he governs. I mean, the spate of killing in the last one month alone is so high that business owner are shutting down their businesses earlier everyday. Some are relocating to safer climes like Akwa Ibom and Ebonyi.

Our governor must be seen doing the lots of talks he’s been talking.

Citizens on their part must “shine their eyes” and “sharpen their ears” at night.

No fewer than three people have been killed and several others wounded including a police officer, after unknown gunmen suspected to be armed robbers attacked a Zenith bank branch in Owerri, the Imo state capital.

The men were also said to have carted away a yet to be disclosed amount of money.

So far, three people who are yet to be identified, have been confirmed dead after the operation which lasted several hours.

Confirming the incident, the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer Andrew Enwerem, said the command is however on top of the situation.

According to him, one of the armed robbers who was shot by the police, as well as other people who were wounded at the scene, have been transferred to the Federal Medical Centre Owerri for immediate treatment.

Anambra PDP calls for Obiano’s impeachment •Petitions State House of Assembly

Anambra PDP calls for Obiano’s impeachment •Petitions State House of Assembly

By Pamela Eboh, Awka ‎ on 20/02/2017

Chairman of Anambra State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Ken Emeakayi, has called on the State House of Assembly to impeach Governor Willie Obiano for what it described as his constitutional breaches.

According to the party, the Governor embarked on a 30 days journey abroad without transmitting a letter to that effect to the State House of Assembly as required by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

It urged the House to commence impeachment process on Obiano for violating the constitution he swore to uphold.

The party noted that the Governor on his return from the overseas trip also failed to transmit a letter to the House upon his return, adding that the development has made the Obiano unfit to continue as the Governor of the state.

Emeakayi said: “We have written to the Police, DSS and other security agencies in the country to let them know that the Governor is now acting illegally.

“We have duly notified the State House of Assembly in a separate letter and we are calling on them to immediately commence impeachment proceedings on the Governor because his offence is very clear,

“Obiano had on the 5th of January, at the peak of the yuletide travelled to the US, without transmitting a letter to the House of Assembly, and stayed 30 days without his deputy acting as governor and as such not fit to continue with the task upon return. He is no longer the governor of this state by this breach.”

PDP further reeled out Obiano’s other offences to include the non conduct of local government elections in the state as required by section seven of the constitution saying that it was also a constitutional offence for impeachment.

The party observed that there were plans by the Governor to appoint caretaker committee leadership into the Local Government councils, instead of holding elections to democratise that tier of government.
